Deuteronomy 31:6 Gifts: He Will Never Leave You Nor Forsake You

Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the Lord your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you.

This is Moses speaking to Israel — and to Joshua specifically — on the eve of entering the Promised Land without him. He won't be going with them. He's passing the baton at the border of everything they've been working toward for forty years. And what he gives them, in place of his own presence, is this: The Lord your God goes with you. He will never leave you nor forsake you.

The verse is also quoted in Hebrews 13:5 — God speaking it again, directly, to all believers: "Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you." Some promises get repeated because they need to be said more than once.

Why "Never Leave, Never Forsake" Is the Foundation

Many people can point to a moment when everyone else left — a spouse, a friend, a parent, a community that should have stayed. The experience of abandonment is one of the most universal and most painful human experiences. Deuteronomy 31:6 speaks directly to that wound: there is one who will never leave. No qualifier. No condition on your performance. Never.

It's also a verse specifically for transition moments — Moses gave it to Israel as they stepped into the next thing without him. It's the word for every goodbye, every new beginning, every moment when the familiar support structure falls away and you're left walking forward with God alone.

Best Deuteronomy 31:6 Gifts

"He Will Never Leave You" Print — A clean, meaningful print for a bedroom or office. One of the most common verse art pieces in Christian gift shops for exactly this reason.

Transition/Going-Away Gift — For someone facing a goodbye: a child going to college, a family member relocating, someone in a season of significant change. The promise that what doesn't come with them, He does.

"Be Strong and Courageous" Set — A paired gift with Joshua 1:9 (which echoes this passage) — two prints, one for each verse that says the same essential thing in the same essential moment. Moses to Joshua, God to us.

Military/Service Gift — For someone deployed, or in a field where they face real danger separated from family. "He will never leave you nor forsake you" is the promise that crosses every distance.

Grief Support Gift — For someone who has experienced abandonment or significant loss. The specific promise that God's presence doesn't depart is the anchor here.

He was with them at the Jordan. He's with you at yours.
